Mechanical hard drives are bleak Western Digital closes 45-year-old factory

Since the market is so weak that there is no need for full production, Western Digital will close its HDD factory near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, one of the first HDD factories in Western Digital – that has been in operation since 1973 and has been in operation for 45 years by mid-2019.
In the future, Western Digital will only have two mechanical hard disk factories, both located in Thailand.
At the same time, Western Digital will increase investment in NAND flash memory and SSD SSDs, and the SSD factory expansion plan in Penang, Malaysia has been basically completed and will start construction in the near future.
